Club President - Peter Allen

“As President of the University of Galway Rugby Club, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the club. We are proud to be one of the oldest rugby clubs in Connacht, with a rich and distinguished history within the province.

Since its foundation, the club has enjoyed success across multiple competitions at all levels in both the men’s and women’s games. Over the years, many of our players have earned representative honours, lining out for Connacht at senior and junior level, for Irish Universities, and for Ireland, all while wearing the University of Galway colours.

In recent times, our involvement in the women’s game has grown significantly, and we are delighted to see our women’s teams achieving success and strengthening their presence within the club. We look forward to building on this progress in the years ahead.

Beyond rugby itself, the club plays an important role in the university's social life. It offers students the chance to meet new people, form lasting friendships, and become part of a vibrant and supportive community. Being involved in the club helps students settle into university life and make the most of their time here.

The University of Galway Rugby Club is one of the oldest and most respected rugby clubs in Connacht, built on a proud tradition of excellence, inclusivity, and community. We thrive on being a positive, supportive, and ambitious club, where players of all levels are encouraged to grow, compete, and enjoy their rugby.

Across our men’s and women’s teams, we work together as one united club. Collaboration, respect, and team spirit are at the heart of everything we do on the pitch, in training, and throughout university life.

Our club is also known for its vibrant social culture. We value the friendships, memories, and sense of belonging that rugby creates, and we take pride in bringing all our teams together as one community.

Whether you’re an experienced player or completely new to the sport, the University of Galway Rugby Club offers a place to develop your skills, challenge yourself, and become part of a welcoming and energetic rugby family.

  • Our mens and u20s teams train Tuesday and Thursday in Dangan from 7-8:30 PM

  • Our Women’s Rugby team trains both Monday and Wednesday in Dangan from 7:30-8:30 PM
