University of Galway Senior Men’s First XV
Founded in 1874, the University of Galway Rugby Football Club (formerly UCG RFC) is the oldest rugby club in Connacht and a founding member of the IRFU. With a storied history spanning over 150 years, the senior men’s program remains a powerhouse of provincial rugby, combining a legacy of elite performance with a structured pathway for modern athletes.
Provincial Dominance
The club’s senior men’s division is the most decorated in the West of Ireland. Holding a record 34 Connacht Senior Cup titles, the University of Galway has established a standard of excellence that remains unmatched by any other club in the province. This winning tradition has historically made the club a vital pipeline for provincial and national representative honours.
